What is Medical Coding?

Medical coding is a process of translating a patient’s health-related information into alpha-numeric code. This information includes different medical procedures, patient medical history, medical equipment, and different medical information related to a physician’s diagnosis.

Medical coding is based upon the accuracy of the data provided by the healthcare professionals and coded perfectly by the medical coders. This data will also help the physician to know the patient’s history shortly. The collected data will be verified by the medical coders before coding.

Who is a Medical Coder?

A medical coder is a healthcare professional who can analyze the patient’s documents and transform them into a medical code that is understandable by everyone. They help in doing medical billing and insurance claims. The medical coder should choose the correct data from the documents, summarize it, and make it perfect by applying different codes.

They are the most valuable part of medical coding as they are the responsible persons for making and filling the chart with necessary details. Their roles are very much vital for the future diagnosis of the patient.
